Every other day we hear that youngsters are taking steroids, drugs and other chemicals to pump up their body or just for show off. Whenever we join gym, we are instructed by trainer to increase protein diet in our regular meals. To do that we starts taking readymade proteins i.e. powder form. But does this really help our body?? They are rich in protein. One cup of boiled Kidney Beans(177g) contains 15g of proteins. Beans protein is less than animal protein but at the same time they are affordable. Kidney beans also contain lectins and protease inhibitors. They are richest source of plant based protein.
2) Carbs :
Carbs in kidney beans are known as starch, which accounts for approximately 72% of the total calorie content Beans have a relatively high proportion of amylase (30-40%) compared to most other dietary sources of starch. Amylase is not as digestible as amylopectin.
For this reason, bean starch is a so-called slow-release carbohydrate. Its digestion takes longer and it causes lower and more gradual rise in blood sugar than other types of starch, making kidney beans particularly beneficial for people with diabetes. In fact, bean starch has a more beneficial effect on blood sugar balance than many other high-carb foods.
3) Fibers :
They are high in fiber, which contain resistant starch, responsible for weight management. Kidney beans also contain insoluble fibers known as alpha-galactosides, which may cause diarrhea and flatulence in some people. The fermentation of these healthy fibers also results in the formation of short-chain fatty acids, such as butyrate, acetate, and propionate , which may improve colon health and reduce the risk of colon cancer.
4) Vitamins and Minerals :
Kidney beans are good source of several vitamins and minerals, such as molybdenum , folate, iron, copper, manganese, potassium, vitamin k1.
Kidney beans also contain variety of bioactive plant compounds, which have both positive and negative effect on health. Kidney beans contain proteins which reduces the digestion of starches. They improved blood sugar control. They are excellent dietary choice for diabetic patients. Kidney beans helps to prevent colon cancer. It is one most common cancer.
Every coin have negative side to it, similarly beans too have some negative effects, like raw or improper cooked beans are toxic. Excessive consumption may cause bloating and flatulence.
